Details
The Thunderbird story began in 1958 when Tom Sias, a Tacoma sailor working for the Douglas Fir Plywood Association, conceived the idea of a sailboat to be built out of plywood by an amateur builder which would "be both a racing and cruising boat... Sleep four... Be capable of being built by reasonably skilled amateurs... Be powered by an outboard auxiliary... And out-perform other sailboats.
There are thousands of Thunderbirds around the world and an International Regatta is still held every second year and many have been won by Australians.
Thunderdownunder is a 26 foot boat built by Bruce King in 1984 and is unquely laid up in derakane resin making her light, strong and impervious to osmosis. She was the World Champion boat in 1986.
She comes with great sails, 2 headsails on a furler and 2 spinnakers.
She is ready to race or cruise with 4 berths, VHF, Chart Plotter, safety gear and a Yamaha 8 HP outboard. She is currently rated for Category 5N.
Thunderdownunder is a great opportunity to get into racing and family cruising at a fraction of the price of other options. She is on her own cradle in the Yacht Club so you avoid costly marina fees and annual messy expensive anitfouling.
